Marriage

Marriage in Romania is only possible between a man and a woman by their personal freely-given consent, and as long as the future spouses are 18 years old or over. In Romania, bigamy is not accepted.

Foreign citizens or stateless persons who wish to get married in Romania must:

1. Contact the Civil Registry Office in their county of residence.
2. Register a Marriage Declaration, together with a series of documents, that will constitute the Marriage record file.
3. Legally reside in Romania at the date of registration of the Marriage Declaration and the date of marriage.

The marriage must be notified to the Immigration Office in whose jurisdiction the persons are residing, within 30 days of the date of marriage.
