Public schooling has existed in Cluj for over 600 years with the first higher education institution being founded by the Jesuits at the end of the 16th century. Cluj-Napoca is the second largest university centre in Romania: with 12 universities and an estimated 80,000 students. Below you can find a list of universities and Cluj.

Babeș-Bolyai University‎ –

Considered the largest university in Romania (around 44,000 students), Babeș-Bolyai University offers study programmes in five languages: Romanian, Hungarian, English, French and German (as well as a smaller number of programmes at the Master’s level taught in Spanish, Italian and Japanese).  More information about the academic programme:

“Iuliu Hațieganu”  University of Medicine and Pharmacy‎ 

The oldest medical educational establishment in Transylvania, “Iuliu Haţieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy is an international and multicultural university with more than 3,000 international students (from a total of 11,000 students) from more than 60 countries on all continents. Technical University of Cluj-Napoca 

The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca comprises twelve faculties in the two academic centres with a wide range of fields of study, from engineering to architecture, fundamental sciences, socio-human sciences and arts.  More information:

University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca | 

The university provides the academic instruction of its highly qualified specialists in the main fields of agricultural and forestry sciences, engineering, veterinary medicine and natural sciences by promoting bachelor, masters, PhD and postgraduate studies based on the development of knowledge, research and innovation. University of Art and Design 

The University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca is classified as a teaching and artistic creation university and it includes two faculties: the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Decorative Arts and Design and operates in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Declaration, developing an educational process divided into three cycles: bachelor, master and doctorate. Protestant Theological Institute of Cluj 

It is a Protestant seminary and private university that trains ministers for four separate Protestant denominations: Calvinism (the Reformed Church in Romania), Lutheranism (the majority-Hungarian Evangelical Lutheran Church, the majority-Saxon Evangelical Church of Augustan Confession), and Unitarianism (the Unitarian Church of Transylvania). The Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania is the independent university of the Hungarian community in Romania, which aims at providing education to the members of the community and performing scientific research on a high professional level.
